Tweetalig onderwijs
De tto-klassen zijn bedoeld voor de leerlingen die het een uitdaging vinden om zich optimaal in het Engels te bekwamen en op die manier zich beter voor willen bereiden op hun vervolgopleiding en latere carrière.
How is the bilingual programme
different?
Bilingual education means that half of your classes at lower
secondary school are in English. Everything will be in English,
including your books. Subjects like biology, physical education,
history, music, maths and of course English are perfectly suitable
for bilingual education. During the lessons pupil will even speak
English to their classmates! The other half of the classes will be
in Dutch. In the upper secondary school, about a third of the
classes will be in English - mainly the non-examination subjects.
In the bilingual stream, pupils follow an extra programme so they
can obtain an internationally-recognised certificate. For vwo this
will be the International Baccalaureate A2 certificate, for havo
and mavo a similar certificate. IB A2 (vwo) level certificate for
English helps pupils to gain admittance to almost any university in
the world.
Why choose bilingual
education?
Because it is fun! First of all,
pupils have to like English and want to learn to become very good
at speaking and writing it. Secondly, learning English at a high
level will offer pupils many future opportunities, whether they
would like to work in business or study at university. People
communicate in English all over the world. Studying in higher
education at hbo or university in the Netherlands often involves
reading and writing in English as well. What's more, bilingual
education will broaden the European and international horizons as
well as improve the general language skills, such as comprehensive
reading and good formulation. Last but not least, in the bilingual
stream pupils will do interesting international projects and go on
exchanges or study trips.
